Can patients be allergic to the metals used in joint replacements?

What Role Does Metal Hypersensitivity Play in Implant Complications?

This is an important question to which the answer is currently unknown. The article linked above provides a good summary of the state of knowledge as of today.

In our 40 years of practice we have not recognized a case of metal allergy to the implants we use.
