The importance of two good x-ray views in evaluating shoulder arthritis

Not infrequently we see patients who have been evaluated for shoulder pain without having had proper x-rays.
This is just a reminder that the anteroposterior view does not always tell the full story. Compare the findings on this AP view

with the pathology revealed by the lateral.


It is important to mentor the x-ray technologists so they learn the proper technique for each view. In this way, we get all the information we need without the expense and radiation of a CT scan.
