He selected a ream and run procedure. His postoperative x-rays show re-centering of his humeral head on his glenoid without a change in the glenoid retroversion.
Recently we received a note on the 9th anniversary of his left shoulder surgery.
" I sometimes forget that I even had shoulder problems. I start to take it for granted that I have zero limitations with my left shoulder. Only in writing to you am I reminded that I used to often just leave my left hand in my pocket much of the day as I really could not even use my left arm. As I've told you before, I really could not even comb my hair or brush my teeth left handed any more.
Today, 9 years after surgery my shoulder has never been better. I am sorry I have not done anything quantitatively to measure my shoulder performance like number of push-ups or pull-ups (although I will be going to the gym soon and I will do many of both exercises) but I will mention something I find really impressive in regards to my shoulder's general state. A couple of years after my surgery, I thought my shoulder felt great. I could once again throw a football, a baseball and play tennis left-handed. However, it always took be a few throws to relieve the tightness or "heavy" feeling my shoulder had. After a couple of very tentative throws, I would begin to slowly warm up and then things were great.
Somewhere along the line, that "heavy" or tight feeling in the shoulder completely went away. I was reminded of this the other day warming up before a flag football game when a friend commented that I no longer had to make some very soft 20 foot throws before truly warming up. Please note that I still need to warm up but now it's just the normal warm-up for the soft-tissues. I no longer have to work out the tightness before throwing. I find this an impressive result of your work in that 9 years after the surgery, my shoulder is better now than it was after 3 years or even 6 years."
Here is a video he sent us showing his function at 2 years after surgery
